Statistics from November 2016 are entirely positive, demonstrating that tourism in Spain is thriving regardless of any perceived challenges in the wake of the Brexit vote.

In fact, it could be argued that Brexit has had no negative impact on tourism whatsoever, as the numbers of people visiting Spain from the UK continued to increase through the whole of 2016. According to figures released this month, in November 2016 a record number of visitors from Great Britain travelled to Spain; while they were here, there was no sign that spending habits were being curtailed.

Brits aren’t the only ones ranking Spain as one of the top destinations either. The numbers of foreign visitors to this country rose by 9.2% on the previous year, equating to over 4 million total visitors. Needless to say, spending also increased, and visitors are reported to have spent over €4,000m. This is an 8.3% increase on 2015.

Brits spent over €700m in Spain last year

Spain saw 12.5% more British visitors last year, yet the cash they spent here rose even more, equating to an increase of almost 18%: more than €700m. This means that Brits in Spain are spending around €120 per day, and almost €900 across their entire stay (around a week). German, French and Scandinavian visitors were also flocking to Spain as usual, although spending less than the British visitors; more than 20% of all foreign spending in Spain in 2016 came from British visitors.

Spain popular destination for expats and touristsWe think it’s safe to conclude that Spain is as more popular than ever, and with the Spanish property market continuing to boom, the future is brighter than it has been for a long time here in Spain. It is clear that the charms Spain has outweigh any uncertainty caused by recent political affairs, and expats continue to dream of the idyllic Costa Del Sol lifestyle modeled by many who have already made the leap.

With the property market showing no signs of wavering over recent months, 2017 could be the year to get your Costa del Sol dream lifestyle off the ground.
