Best Places to Live – Thinking about buying a property on the Costa del Sol

We all know that the Costa del Sol is back in the property news in Spain for being one of the most sought after places to live at the moment.  If you’re thinking of looking for a property for sale in Calahonda and to live in Spain, then it is a good idea to check out the areas that may suit you, your family and your situation as best as possible.  If you’re thinking about buying a property on the Costa del Sol you should know there are so much diversity in the area that something can be found to suit the individual’s taste and requirements.  Making for a happy home and ideal living conditions.

The Socialite

If you’re looking for liveliness, shopping, beach fun and parties then you would probably be better suited to the coastal regions of the south.  Areas like, Marbella, Fuengirola and Benalmádena would be more your cup of tea.  All situated pretty close to one another, however from Fuengirola you get the Metro all the way to Malaga City via places like, Los Boliches, Torreblanca, Benalmadena-Arroyo de la Miel, Torremolinos and the main airport in Malaga.  Buses run regularly from Fuengirola to other parts on the east side like Mijas, Calahonda, Cabopino, Marbella, Andalucía Nueva and Puerto Banus.  So if it’s nightlife you like or want to be where all the action is, then probably best to choose one of these parts of the Costa del Sol because that’s where it’s at.

There are many things to do in all of these places, whether it be the beaches, restaurants, bars, clubs and themed parks.  Pretty much everything is on your doorstep and if you like your amenities close by, where you don’t have to travel too far, then these areas would definitely make you happier.

The Country Bumpkin

For the more private or introverted person, who like their own space or would rather the quiet life, the campo (country or mountain regions) would be perfect.  Going more inland means more travel but it doesn’t matter when you get the exceptional views, security and peace of your own little slice of heaven.  These areas may be best suited to retired people or quieter folk who work from home etc, as travelling back and forth to work will take it’s toll.

If you like to chill more than you enjoy the high life then you are much better off looking toward places like Alhaurin del Grande, Ronda, Coin and Cartama to name just a few.  Mijas Pueblo and Mijas Golf would also be idea place for country dwellers to settle as it both serene but usually has a small village or town nearby where all your local amenities can be found.  You can always head into the coastal regions if you feel like tearing it up for a night.  Then retreat back to your little haven afterwards for some well earned peace and quiet.

The Family

Costa del Sol is just great for families as there is so much going on for kids and parents alike, where both will live very happily together.  With this in mind you may want to consider where you will school your children and work around this.  Parts of Marbella are perfect for the fun beaches and activities, around the quieter Old Town may suit better than the party areas for families.  

Also areas like Mijas Costa, including La Cala, Calahonda and Cabopino that are family orientated and very close to schools, shops, doctors, restaurants and most of the amenities that will be necessary for you and your crew.  There are some very good beaches around here and it’s not too far away that you will find aqua parks and places of interest for family days out.

Going All Español

If you are the more adventurous type that likes to immerse themselves in the culture and language of place then you may want to take a look into the sides of Costa del Sol that are more traditional.  One of the main ones here is San Pedro Alcántara, which in anyone who knows the coast will tell you it’s one of the last remaining traditional Spanish towns.  

If you already have the language, have a family that does and want to really live the Español life, then here would be your first choice.  Spoken English is not heard here very often, but if its total submersion in Spain and its culture, language and lifestyle then this is it!

Another town similar to San Pedro would be Estepona.  A pretty traditional old style Spanish town, that is more on the relaxed side of life.  It’s quite diverse in it’s beaches and has very sandy for swimming to rocky that would be perfect for snorkeling.  Estepona can be both lively and peaceful in it’s own time and on its own terms, making it kind of perfect for people looking to buy their home in such a area.
