If you have purchased a property or are thinking about purchasing a property in Mijas Costa, here's a few ideas on what to do on the Costa del Sol with kids!

Within easy reach of Calahonda, Riviera del Sol or La Cala de Mijas, you will find a variety of things such as water parks, adventure parks, zoos and more.

What to do on the Costa del Sol with kids

Amazonia

In nearby Elviria you can climb and swing through the trees at Aventura Amazonia. There are huge zip lines and multi adventure circuits for everyone from young children to adults. For those seeking an adrenaline rush then you should explore the X-Trem circuits. The entrance fee is from 16€ up to €24 depending on the season and the height of the individual. To get there by car from Calahonda, head along the AP7, direction Marbella for approximately 7 minutes, take the exit for Elviria , head up for about 300 meters and take the first turning on your right. By bus from Calahonda. From the coast road head to your nearest bus stop and take a Marbella bus and get off at the Elviria stop, from there it’s less than a 10 minutes walk.

Parque Acuatico Mijas Water Park

If you fancy a change from the beach or the pool, but still want to splash around, then my next recommendation is Parque Acuatico Mijas, more known as Agua Park. It’s a large water park in Mijas Costa, just on the border of Fuengirola. There are water attractions for all ages which will make it a great family day. The small children will love the infant slides and the "lizard island". For the older ones there is a large wave pool, Kamikaze slide, lazy river run, the maze of slides, adventure river, loop the loop and many more. For the less energetic you have sun loungers and there are snack bars and cafes .

Entrance fees range from €26 adults, €20 for juniors and €15 for a child.

To get there from Calahonda by car, take the A7 coast road direction Fuengirola. Exit at Las Lagunas de Mijas , you will see the park on the right hand side from the road. Alternatively you can take a bus into Fuengirola and take a connection from there.

Bioparc Zoo

Another great day out for the family is the Fuengirola Zoo known as Bioparc.

Take the same directions from Calahonda as you would for Aquamijas and follow the signs.

The zoo is made up of different types of habitats and is represented by places such as Madagascar, Asia and Africa, with waterfalls, trees and rocks to represent a natural environment. This zoo has a different concept from traditional ones. The animals live side by side as if they were in the wild.

There are no caged enclosures, for example the tigers enclosure is protected by a thick glass screen rather than bars. This way you can stand just centimeters from the animal and even put your hand over its face if he comes close enough.

You will also find sections where you can walk through the enclosures of some species and mingle with them. A truly authentic experience. There are all of the usual suspects that you would expect to find in a zoo including apes, the endangered Sumatra Tiger as well as many bird and reptile species.

On summer evenings you can even experience a unique moonlight visit where the zoo stays open until midnight. You will hear the sounds of the jungle by night and see what they get upto in the dark!! As the only other zoo to offer a night time experience in the whole world is in Singapore. This is something that you should definitely try to explore.

Entrance fees, €20 adults and €15 children, there are family discounts available.
